Anne and Ailish are both originally from Ireland, but have lived and worked in this rural part of Catalonia for over 20 years and still delight in its very Mediterranean landscapes. Although they earn their pa amb oli as freelance translators and editors, they have passions and interests that go beyond the computer screen.
Anne and Ailish will be taking care of all the details of As I walked out and will be fully available to you during your stay. They will be with you in person for most of the activities, including several of the walks. Sergi, a certified adventure guide from the village, will act as your guide on the monastery visit and walk.
Born and bred in the coastal village of Ballycotton, Co. Cork, Anne never imagined she could live far from the sea ... until she fell in love with Barberà de la Conca, with its lush vineyards and gentle rolling hills. With her partner Jordi, she runs Les Voltes, a lovingly restored apartment built over a 14th-century arch. Anne has extensive experience as both a host and in event management, having served on the board of a translators’ association for 13 years and as an organizer of several of its conferences.
Ailish, who has put down shallower roots than Anne, is a keen walker — as befits a nomad! An earlier existence in Galicia (western Spain) led her to develop a passion for Caminos de Santiago, of which she has done several (the traditional French Way, the Portuguese Way, the English Way and a large part of the little-known Via de la Plata). She has also crossed the Pyrenees to Andorra with a donkey, but nowadays does more tranquil walking, several times a week along the Costa Daurada and in the hills near Reus (where she lives during the week), and in and around Barberà de la Conca (where she spends her weekends).
